We have a God who surprises us all the time.
When I was waiting for the approval for my return to the holy redeemer, 3 months I waited, then six months and then a year and I said to myself, this is it. I’m going to make my plans now what to do next. The approval will not happen anymore.
Then God surprised me. The rest is history and here I am before you.
The First Christmas, was a surprise.
Mary and Joseph had their own plans in life, and God came into their lives and changed everything, giving them a new mission.
He came as a surprise to the shepherds, to the poor, to the humble. Not to the powerful.
In the Gospel, He surprised Elizabeth and Zechariah, barren and in their old age. Even though it was impossible, God gave them a son. John.
And the name John means , God is Gracious, who can bless us and surprise us too.
Brothers and sisters, remember that Christmas is full of surprises.
Even the gifts we will be receiving, will be a surprise.
Surprises are not only for children, but also grownups, for you and me.
Believe that God can surprise us.
Is it healing we need, peace perhaps in our lives and family, happiness and an end to our sorrows, is it a job we need?
Be surprised by God’s blessings this Christmas. Nothing is impossible, just remember that God is Gracious.
Finally, while we wait for the surprises, you and I can surprise others too, by the love and gifts and blessings we can share.
Surprise others and God will surprise us too.
amen.
